DEGREE AWARDING CEREMONY -Convocation 2010 Sardar Aseff Pays Tributes to Shaheed Hakim  Said

The 7th Degree Awarding Ceremony of Hamdard University Islamabad Campus was held on 15th April, 2010 at Margala Hotel. Sardar Aseff Ahmad Ali, Advisor to the Prime Minister on Education graced the occasion as the chief guest. More than 100 graduates received degrees in Business & Management, Engineering & IT, and Pharmacy. Gold Medals were awarded to four students namely Warda Nadeem(MBA), Syed Ali Ajwad(BEEE), Ahsan Nawaz (BETE) and Samina
Liaqat Ali(Pharm.D) for their outstanding performance in academics.

Addressing the ceremony, Sardar Aseff Ahmad Ali said that Hamdard University was devotedly advancing the august mission of its Founder Chancellor Shaheed Hakim Said by providing purposeful and quality education to the youth of the country. He further remarked, “Hamdard University has symbolized the hopes and aspirations of the nation by imparting quality education and establishing itself a prestigious institution of Higher education. He paid rich tribute to Founder Chancellor’s services in the field of education and to    produce ‘educated and enlightened    human beings.’             

                         

   

 Vice Chancellor, Dr. Nasim Khan, in his presidential address remarked that Hamdard University is the  largest  private sector university in Pakkistan. It had an enrolment of 7,542 students and 16,141 alumni. This is, indeed, a significant contribution towards the goal of providing higher education to a large  segment of the younger generation in Pakistan and  to meet the future manpower needs of the country. Our motto ‘ In Pursuit of Excellence’ has resulted in a ‘ University Par Excellence’ that takes pride in being associated with the name Hamdard and Shaheed Hakim Said who lived for one mission – selfless service to this country and its people. Hamdard University proudly claims that our students are already absorbed in the prestigious organizations that demand efficiency and commitment, he added.

 

Chancellor Senator S.M. Zafar, who was to preside over the ceremony, was unable to attend due to a crucial meeting of the Senate.

 

Earlier, Dr. Masud Malik, Director General, Islamabad Campus presented the annual report and spoke about the achievements of Islamabad Campus in terms of curricular and extra curricular activities, increase in number of students, improvement of physical facilities and up gradation of the learning resources. Mentioning recognition of Pharm. D Program and hospital attachment with Polyclinic for training of the Pharmacy graduates, he thanked Federal Ministry of Health, Executive Director and Management of  the hospital.

While conveying vote of thanks, Madam Sadia Rashid, President, Hamdard Foundation  Pakistan said that convocation might seem like culmination but actually it was a new beginning of the practical life. Citing example of  her father Shaheed Hakim  Said she said that from one room and a few pieces of rented furniture, he built up the whole empire of Hamdard. “This is the power of one person, but it all happened because he believed in honesty, hard work and helping his fellow-men. Allah’s blessings are always with such a person who   believes in himself,” she said. She congratulated recipients of degrees and medals as well as their   parents and also thanked them for choosing Hamdard
  University for learning. She urged them to work hard in their fields as engineers,  pharmacists and managers to make the country and the world a better place.

Shaheed Hakim  Said Remembered Services in the field of Education & Tibb Lauded

A symposium on the eve of 90th birthday of Shaheed  Hakim  Said was held on  January 8, 2010. General (Retd)   Hamid Gul, a renowned personality, was the guest speaker. Col.(R) Qureshi, Director Admin  warmly welcomed the chief guest. The guest speaker highlighted the services of Shaheed Hakim Said and said that Hakim Muhammad Said was a great visionary and educationist  as well as  renowned Tabib who would be always  remembered. He considered Shaheed Hakim the only personality after Quaid-e-Azam who should   be followed for the progress of the country and the nation. He spoke about  different aspects of the life of Hakim Sahib and asked the student to make him the role model and serve the nation in true sprit and zeal. He advised the student to get united against corruption, illiteracy, and prejudice in present society. Mr. Naeem Qureshi, a member of Hamdard Shura, also spoke about the institutions established by Hakim Said for welfare of common people and his services to humanity. Dr. Masud  Malik Director General in his closing remarks said that the best way to pay tribute to Shaheed Hakim Said is to study his writings, follow his footsteps and remember his slogan “Love Pakistan Build Pakistan.” He thanked the distinguished guest for an enlightening talk.

Hamdard Inter University Cricket Challenge Cup 2010

Sports not only develop mental capabilities and physical strength but also give confidence and improve personality traits of the players. Hamdard University Islamabad Campus organizes sports events on regular basis. This year 6th Hamdard 20/20 Inter University Cricket Challenge Cup 2010 we organized from March 24 to  April 1, 2010. The event was inaugurated by Mr. Zahid Maqbool, President Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry. Twelve teams from  Islamabad and Rawalpindi Universities, namely Hamdard University, Fast University, Sarhad University,  Bahria University, Iqra University Islamabad Campus, NUML University, Federal Urdu University, Preston University, Comsats University,            MAJU, SZABIST and Riphah International University, participated in this event. Final match was played between Hamdard University Islamabad Campus and Bahria University. Bahria University was declared the winner and Champion of the Challenge Cup 2010.

Director General HUIC in his address appreciated the participant universities and congratulated the Champion team.   He also applauded display of discipline and  tolerance by all the players. He appreciated the management for making good arrangements and providing a recreation to the students in the prevailing tense situation prevailing in the country.

Annual Sports Held

 

Annual Sports Week 2009  was organized from 19th November to 24th November 2009 at F-9 Park Cricket ground were held. Indoor games  Quaid–e– Azam University courts. Inaugural ceremony was held on 19th November 2009 at F-9 Park Islamabad. Mustafain Kazmi Director General, Civic, Sports and Pubic Relations (CDA) was the chief guest. He lauded the efforts of Hamdard University in imparting knowledge as well as  extra curricular activities and sports for personality development of the students. Students participated enthusiastically in Cricket, Foot Ball, Basket Ball, Table Tennis and Badminton. In cricket, 21 teams participated and HIIT Eleven STAR were declared as winner. In basket ball 6 teams participated and DEVIL team were declared as winner.  20 students participated in the event of Table Tennis and  Mr. Zubair of HIIT won and 50 Students participated in the Badminton event and  Mr. Rehan of HIIT was declared winner. 10 Teams participated in the foot ball event and the SHINT 11 of Pharmacy won. Closing ceremony of Hamdard Annual Sports Week 2009 was held on 24 November, 2009 at F-9 Park Islamabad. Director General awarded certificates to winners and runner ups.

Spring Intake Welcomed

Hamdard University Islamabad Campus organized welcome ceremony for the spring intake on 9th March, 2010 Director General was the Chief Guest.  Director Admin Col. Mushtaq A Qureshi while addressing, warmly welcomed the students and congratulated them for choosing Hamdard University in pursuit of their higher education. He added Hamdard University is pursuing the vision of its founder Chancellor paying special attention to the personality development and character building of students along with maintaining high academic standards and discipline. Mehfil-e- Milad Held

 

A Mehfil-e-Milad to pay homage to the Prophet of Islam (SAW) on 26th February, 2010 at the auditorium. Dr. Qari Muhammad Younas, a wellknown religious scholar was the Chief Guest. Students recited Hamad, Naat and Darood-o-Salam to invoke the Blessings of Allah Almighty upon the Messenger of Allah (SAW). It created a soothing environment leaving the audience spiritually awakened.  .

The chief Guest while  highlighting  the various aspects of life of the Prophet (SAW) said that  the true happiness lies in following commandments of Allah and sunnah of Muhammad (SAW). We have to devote our self towards Islam and its teaching to seek success in this world and the hereafter, he added. Dr. Masud Malik, Director General in his closing remarks advised the students to recite and learn the Holy Quran and follow the life of Holy Prophet (PBUH) for eternal success. Seminars

  • A seminar on “Introduction to Virtual Instrumentation” was held for HIIT students on January 4, 2010. The speaker Mr. Yasir, a Research Scientist, introduced the subject and familiarized the participants with the working and operations of the Lab View software. He highlighted the importance of  the software and its validity for the vast range of applications.
  • A seminar on “Open Control Industrial Automation Suite” was held on April 20, 2010 in the Auditorium for HIIT students. Mr. Muhammad Asad, Director Operations, Buraq Integrated Solutions and Mr. Muzammil were the speakers who highlighted the need of industrial automation and how it is done. They also demonstrated and showed simulation of various control systems. Students were also advised on selection of their final projects based on Open Control System in line with present day needs.

Participation of Faculty in National/International Seminars/Workshop

Pharm-D Curriculum Review Workshop:
Director HIPS Mr. Azhar Hussain participated in a two day workshop organized by Pharmacy Council of Pakistan and World Health  organization to review the Pharm. D curricula, held at Lahore on April 19-20, 2010.
National Workshop on Implication of WTO/TRIPs
The Drugs Control and Traditional Medicine Division of National Institute of Health, Islamabad, in collaboration with Ministry of Health and World Health Organization, organized a National Workshop to train the Traditional Medicines/Traditional knowledge Stakeholders about the Implication of WTO/TRIPs on 6th April, 2010. Mr. Iftikhar Hussain Assistant Professor, Mr. Shezad khan Lecturer and Mr. Ahsan Khalid Teaching Assistant participated.
International Seminar on Total Quality Management
Organized by  Ministry of Health in collaboration with pharmaceutical industry, it was held on  23rd April 2010 at Marriot Hotel Islamabad and Mr. Azhar Husain  and Mr. M Yasin from HIPS participated.

Our students are winners:

Poster Competition on Tobacco Control
Students of Hamdard University have designed and submitted 5 posters on the theme of “Tobacco Control” in poster competition arranged by The Network for consumer Protection in the last week of March 2010 to contributing to an advocacy and awareness campaign towards a tobacco free society. Ms. Madiha Malik Lecturer coordinated this event from HIPS. Ms Aatifa Mukhtar, a HIPS student, won third position in the competition along with a cash prize

HUIC students Competed in Spring Splash 2010
HUIC students competed  in various events of ‘Spring Splash 2010’. It was organized
by Preston University  from  April 12   to   April 16 , 2010. Mr. Yasin Abdullah  and Mr. Salman Tahir  of HIPS got 1st positions in English and Urdu Bilingual Declamation Contests respectively while Mr. Kaiwan Haider won First position in Na’at Competition.

Inter-university Challenge 2010 at IST
IST Twin City Inter- University Challenge 2010 organized by Institute of Space Technology dated 26th to 27th March, 2010 at IST auditorium. HUIC students participated in  Bilingual Declamation Contest, Mushaira, All Rounder, Essay Writing, Story Writing, Photography, Drama competitions and IST Twin City. Mr.    Salman Tahir (HIPS) won 3rd Position Urdu Declamation Contest,. Miss Aleen Fatima (HIPS) got 2nd position in Photography Competition and Mr. Usman (HIIT) was placed at 3rd position in Dramatic Contest. IST Twin City Inter- University Challenge 2010

Vice Chancellor, Dr. Nasim Khan visited Islamabad Campus on March 1, 2010.  He held meeting with DG and Director,  went around all faculties and departments and met faculty members and students. He appreciated the efforts put by the faculty members to prepare the youth to meet the future challenges by imparting them the high quality professional education.

Chancellor Visits HUIC

Chancellor Senator S.M. Zafar visited HUIC on March 31, 2010 and met with the Directors to discuss matters relating to HUIC. Construction of Campus building on new site was also taken up and assured the step will be undertaken to initiate work on new site

Farewell Party in HIPS


Students of HIPS hosted a farewell party to bid good bye to the students of Pharm. D (5th Professional) Program on 16th December, 2009. After the welcome address, the outgoing students were entertained with fabulous skits, Qawali and mushaira. Mr. Azhar Hussain, Director HIPS in the closing remarks congratulated the students on completing the their Pharm. D Program and wished  them success as Pharmacists.
