The mission of Hamdard Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences(HIPS) is to develop a critical pool of human resource in the field of pharmacy, which can respond to the present as well as future needs of health and well being of the society. The institute, one of its kind is imparting highly professional education to the students. Pharm D. program is designed to meet the future requirements as well as to accommodate the dynamics of Pharmaceutical care.

Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm. D)



A pharmacist, after receiving formal education and training in Pharm. D. program, is considered a drug therapy consultant and drug information specialist who can undertake the manufacturing, quality assurance, marketing, supply system, procurement, storage, distribution and use of drugs in the industry, hospital or in the community practice. Hamdard Institute of Pharmaceutical Science Pharm-D program envisages the challenges of today and tomorrow and the students are trained to meet these challenges. The program offers wider career opportunities for pharmacists in the industry, hospital and community.

Hospital Training:

 

 

For our Pharmacy students, Federal Government Services Hospital (FGSH) in Islamabad provides an excellent opportunity of interaction and learning. This is a 508 bed hospital with over 500 doctors working in 27 different specialties. The hospital has an average daily turnover of over 2000 patients. The students also have the opportunity to interact and visit the 27 allied dispensaries attached with the hospital. The students work and gain experience in Pharmacy Stores, Pharmacies, Cardiac Care Unit, Intensive Care Unit, Emergency, General Medicine Ward, General Out Patient, Pediatric Ward, Surgery, Nephrology, Gynae Ward, Blood Bank and Laboratories. Students are evaluated for attachment by submission of projects, ward reports and presentations.

LABORATORY  FACILITIES

 

Basic Medical Sciences Laboratory

This Lab is inculcating the practical know-how of medical fraternity; the students are made competent for hospital environment by conducting various physiology and pharmacology practicals.

 Pharmaceutical Chemistry Laboratory

The pharmaceutical chemistry laboratory is the multipurpose set up which embrace the skill of analysis, synthesis and herb purification of medicinal compounds is also performed. This lab meets the requirement of different courses of chemistry in Pharm-D program.

 Pharmaceutics Laboratory

The pharmaceutics laboratory is working with objective of developing a practical approach of good pharmacy practice which concentrating on compounding and dispensing techniques of different dosage forms.

 Pharmacognosy Laboratory

Pharmacognosy lab provides an opportunity to the students to learn about the medicinal plants and different procedures to obtain the extract of different parts of the plants for the production of Pharmaceutical preparations. Without having knowledge of pharmacognosy one cannot be a good pharmacist that’s why we impart update knowledge of the sources of medicines in pharmacognosy laboratory.

 Industrial Pharmacy Lab

All the pure and applied aspects of dosage form design and pilot plant scaling are exercised in this lab. During course of practical students enhance their ability to conduct R&D procedure, produce stable drug products and to invent new techniques of production.

 

Quality Control Lab

This lab is specified to carry out analysis of different kinds of dosage forms and students take keen interest in practical work, because there is always a new thing to learn. Out put of this lab is very health, graduates working in different industries are greatly respected which reflects the reputation of the institution.
